My Training and Experience: 1982 to 2000

1992 Graduation from Clackamas Community Collage with my Associates Degree in Nursing my mother was so proud of me. It had been her dream to become a Nurse but she only made it to the level of Certified Medication Aide (CMA)
Please note: I have been married four times so have had several last names including: Burbank-Carson, Fogleman, Barajas, Olivas, and Lavadour
I graduated from Tillamook High School class of 1982, but had completed all of my courses in my Junior year 1981 and went to Northwestern Collage of Business and graduated in August of 1982 with a "degree" in National Travel Accounting Administration I did go through the High School Graduation ceremony with my class though.

However, I married my first husband in September 1982, 3 days before my 18th birthday and never ended up working in the travel industry.
I stayed in that marriage for 2 and 1/2 years and in 1983 started working for an Ophthalmologist as a receptionist, my first experience working in healthcare. I also had several experiences with the healthcare system as a patient during the marriage. Plus, I was hospitalized when I was 10 years old for an appendectomy. I had a minor procedure two weeks after we married (Story under My Journey) and learned how to deal with pain when my husband took all my pain pills and sold them. Then I had a gallbladder attack and didn’t want to wake my husband, so I was rolling around on the floor of the bathroom, in and out of the tub, and just feeling miserable. My pain was an 8-9/10 stabbing up from my right ribs through to my right shoulder blade. It was coming and going in waves and eventually I could wait no longer. After about 4 hours I woke him up to take me to the emergency room (ER). They ran blood work, catheterized me for a urine sample, and did an Ultrasound which took around 3 hours. Back in 1982 they did not give you pain medicine until they knew what was wrong with you. They finally decided it was a gallstone and gave me a shot of Demerol mixed with Vistaril and sent me home saying if it didn’t get better come back in. The pain had almost gone away by the time they gave me the pain medication so I was okay and it was years before another attack. However, my husband dropped me off at home and left so I was alone on Demerol and felt like I had to force myself to stay awake to keep breathing. Scary.
My next experience was having all four wisdom teeth pulled under anesthesia. It was pretty painful but like the last time I was prescribed pain medication, my husband took it and sold it so I endured the pain. In 1983 I began having female issues and had to go to the gynecologist frequently. I ended up needing an Exploratory Laparoscopy to diagnose my problem. It was painful as they blew my belly up with gas (Insufflated with Carbon Dioxide) and it took about a week for the bloating to go away. You guessed it, I suffered through the pain without the pain medication again. Then we separated and I continued working for the Ophthalmologist.
I was couch surfing at first but then found a roommate and was sleeping on a floor in a basement apartment when I saw a brown spider run out of my cover in the morning. By the time I went to work my right ankle felt like I had sprained it. The doctor I worked for (Eye doctor) looked at it and thought it was sprained as well. I went out with friends after work and had to sit with it elevated all evening. After going out “dancing” we closed down the bar and went out to eat. By the time we left the restaurant, I could not put any weight on my ankle and the pain was 8/10. It also looked red and about four times as large as the left ankle. My friends dropped me off at the ER where I was hospitalized for four days. Turns out the spider was a brown recluse, and they thought I was going to lose my foot over it.
Shortly after I recovered from that I was hospitalized again for another Laparoscopy turned Laparotomy for the female issue and spent another 4 days in the hospital. Given I had already been off work recently for the spider bite I was a little short on funds and I would call the nurse for pain medication. She did not watch to see if I took it so I kept pocketing them. I then called my ex’s friend, and he visited me in the hospital and bought them from me. I went dancing the night I got out of the hospital by taking a dose of the pain medication, but it led to my incision splitting open slightly. I sold the rest of my prescription.
Missing this much work led to my change of job to the entertainment industry for the next 6 years. During that time, I met my 2nd husband, and we had a daughter together. It was that pregnancy that led me to become a nurse. I was seeing a Nurse Practitioner (NP) during my pregnancy, and she was so kind and caring that she inspired me to want to be like her.
On top of being inspired by her I had gone back to work and saw a pregnant girl doing cocaine in the bathroom and I asked her....What are you doing, you're pregnant? Her response floored me. "It's okay, I'm giving the baby up for adoption". I was so appalled at her behavior and answer I wanted to lobby to have pregnant women who could not stay off drugs or alcohol locked up until the baby was born. Oh, how naive I was at the time. I actually thought that was a possibility. But I was not a nurse yet and I figured it out along the way.
When I told my 2nd husband, I wanted to go back to school to become a Midwife, he did not support my plan, and we ultimately separated due to his lack of support and a few other things you can read in my personal journey.
So, in 1989 I started studying at Clackamas Community College. I took 20-22 credits a quarter as I knew I wanted to go on to a university after I finished my Associate Degree in Nursing.
Competition was tough for getting into the Nursing program, you needed to score high on placement tests, have a high GPA and at least two letters of recommendation. When I applied, I had a 4.0 GPA, high placement scores and over 60 credits of prerequisites completed. I made it the first year and entered the Nursing Program summer term 1990. Unfortunately, the guy I was dating did not make it in the program, and it led to our breakup after he destroyed most of my furniture.
I obtained my Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license on1/1/1990 and even though I continued to work in Entertainment industry I also took a job as a CNA but after only a few months found it hard to keep up with schoolwork and working two jobs and the Entertainment job paid more so I continued that job.
I completed my first year of nursing school in June of 1991 and took the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) boards and awaited the letter saying I either passed or failed.

I worked and continued taking >20 credits per term. Nursing school continued and it wasn’t easy. In fact, I nearly got kicked out for unprofessional behavior. But I was determined and wrote letters of apology to the dean and all the other parties involved. I explained my regret but also stated my determination that I would be a nurse and would just go to another school if I was kicked out. I was allowed to stay but decided the entertainment business was not conducive to me becoming a professional nurse. I took a job as a nurse at a local nursing home as we were allowed to work while awaiting our test results. On 11/25/1991 my LPN license arrived; I passed the NCLEX LPN.
Unfortunately, that left my daughter with my mom a lot of the time and now she says she does not remember me in her childhood. Originally, I wanted to be a midwife but after my OB rotation I did not believe I could handle the odors of being a midwife. I had a few more health set backs as I completed nursing school. I got severely depressed and gained 20 pounds in a week while barely eating as all I could do was sleep. I went to a Psychiatrist and he discovered I had a Thyroid issue and started me on medication. But the weight never came back off. I also had an instructor that was a new NP and I fell asleep during her lecture and she took a dislike to me and tried to fail me in lab. I asked to be checked off be a different instructor and had no issue. I tried to explain my new diagnosis, but she did not care.
After I gained the 20 pounds I tried a weight loss plan and started having the gallbladder attacks again. Now I understood more about what healthcare workers should be doing and it was quite eye opening. It made me more empathetic towards patients and I knew what it felt like to be a patient. How every wrinkle in the bed hurt and how much of a pain it was to have to call for help every time. But I finished, graduating with 162 credits and a 3.32 G.P.A. and sat for the NCLEX RN in June of 1992. That year there were 772 RN candidates sitting for the 4 half day tests. Somehow, I was usually the 2nd or third one done for each part. I really wanted a hospital job but in all of Oregon that year there were only 72 New Grad positions available. Since I already had a job, I didn’t even try to get one of them. I did still plan on going on for a master’s degree as an NP but wanted to spend some time with my daughter after being so busy for so long.
The day before my birthday, I was fired, in front of my daughter, after working a double shift because there was a no show at work, I had barely gotten home when I was called in and told to bring my daughter since she was home and I had no babysitter handy. I should have known it was coming because all seven of us that were working there and in the same nursing class were fired that week. My RN license arrived three days later, September 10, 1992.

It did not take long before I had a job at another nursing home. This time as an RN. I was made responsible for 99 patients with the help of 4 CNA's on the night shift. 20 of the beds were skilled. I rarely got out before 9 or 10 AM. This taught me good time management and organization skills.
My gallbladder continued to give me problems. After I worked there six months I finally had it removed. I was off work for 2 weeks and went back to work. Came home and received a call that my grandfather had passed. I tried to call out but was told I had already missed too much work and had to come in. That was really hard for me. When I went to the funeral I applied for a job at the Tillamook hospital and the Tillamook nursing home. I decided I would moved back to Tillamook to watch over my grandmother now that grandpa was gone. The Nursing home hired me.
I put in my two weeks notice and planned my move. On my last few shifts a new CNA started. He was cute and seemed to like me. On my last day we went to breakfast and the chemistry was there. I moved anyway. I ended up driving back to Portland to see him almost every day off. So much for helping grandma. after a couple of months of the new employer not paying me what was agreed I put in my notice as it was not enough to pay my bills. I moved back to Portland and in with the father of my 2nd and 3rd children and later my 3rd husband.
I took a job at another nursing home as a night shift RN. This time it was only 58 patients and 3 CNA's. I was pregnant within a couple of months and went into premature labor six months later. I was hospitalized a couple of times and put on bedrest. Luckily they held my job for me. After I returned to work I impressed them enough that they gave me the Resident Care Manager (RCM) position and I was able to move to day shift. A few months later the 2nd RCM Quit and I negotiated managing the entire building for a nice raise. for 6 years I managed the residents of the building and we had perfect surveys.
I found myself pregnant again and Medicare changed some rules so they decided to hire a 2nd RCM again. I went into premature labor at 28 weeks again and had to be on bedrest and hospitalized again. After I returned to work another survey was done in late September. My side passed with flying colors, the other RCM's side failed so much that there was a threat of closing the building if we did not have it fixed within a month. Went I went to work the next day she had quit. I was asked to fix it and told I would get a big bonus if I could do it. I worked long hours with no extra pay as I was salaried. I figured it would be a good bonus since they gave a new grad floor RN $1000 sign on bonus and she left as soon as her six months was up.
It was almost Thanksgiving when the surveyors returned and we passed again. Then the owner told me she would give me the bonus with my Christmas bonus (it had been $150 every year) so I waited. When I opened the bonus check, my heart sank. $500. It absolutely showed me how little they valued me.
I went to Kaiser Permanente and applied that day. I was hired and I put in my notice. They didn't even ask me to stay. They did however, ask me if I would come back to help train the next RCM if they needed me to. I left that job making $19 an hour going to Kaiser making $25 an hour. They were paying the wound consultant $50/hr weekly to come in. I told them sure, for $50 and hour. I never stepped back into the building again.

In 1991 I was voted in as the President of the Clackama Community College Chapter of the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA) and five of us attended the convention in San Antonio Texas in May of 1991 after we raised money selling candy at the college.

My Training and Experience: 2000 to 2005

May Day 2003 Wolf and Sheri
Please note: I have been married four times so have had several last names including: Burbank-Carson, Fogleman, Barajas, Olivas, and Lavadour
I worked at Kaiser from Jan 2000 to September 30, 2013, I started on the Medical/Surgical floor 3N then went to the Surgical/Medical Floor 2N, then moved into critical care in the ICU stepdown 1S before switching to become the Arena Nurse. In early 2001 I kicked out my 3rd husband for child abuse and went through some financial hardships that I was having difficulty moving past. I ended up working more than I would have liked, leaving my children with either my mother or my oldest far too much of their childhood. During this period, I dated a lot of different people as I needed the boost in my self-esteem after 3 failed marriages. I regret this more than I can ever express to my children as I should have spent more time with them.
In 2001, I also chose to seek spiritual comfort and knowledge. At first, I joined pagan groups as I had always had some gifts and thought maybe I was a natural witch (See My Journey to read more on this) and my 15-year-old daughter was also interested in Wicca. Together we studied about Wicca and went to a few festivals together. I even joined a coven. The High Priestess made me think I was of a special bloodline and part of her family DNA. She had all of us take classes through the Sorcerer's Guild with George Jackson. But the best thing she ever did for me was to recommend I read The Celesting Prophecy by James Redfield---It changed my life.
During the class I was seeing a Reiki Master and he taught me Reiki and attuned me to Usui Reiki Beginning in 2002. I received the Usui Reiki Level One Attunement 2 days after my Birthday, September 10th, 2002, exactly 10 years after I became a Licensed RN.
According to Forbes (2004), Usui Reiki is the most popular form of reiki and is credited to Mikao Usui, who is considered the founder of modern reiki. It is a system of spiritual practice that channels universal life force energy for healing. Usui Reiki originated in Japan and has been taught to thousands of students.

I was Attuned to Usui Reiki Level Two on January 10th, 2003. I continued studying with the Sorcerer’s Guild and attending coven meetings where we did some study of herbs and stones.

We learned how to Brew Mead in October of 2003 as well. I practiced Reiki on anyone who would let me. Some had good results, others did not feel much. So, I kept practicing. We both kept studying and going to gatherings and groups to learn all we could. While I was in the Arena nurse position my boss came up and handed me a pamphlet for a course called Healing Touch and said Kaiser would pay for me to go to it. I took Healing Touch Level One in the cafeteria of Kaiser Permanente on the weekend of August 26-28, 2005 and my healing abilities improved dramatically. It worked so much better for me than Reiki did alone.

It was in April 2003 that I was at one of the Sorcerers Guild Classes and met my 4th Husband. Not long after we met we moved in together and continues to study the healing arts and the occult.
It was in April 2003 that I was at one of the Sorcerers Guild Classes and met the man who would later become my 4th, Husband. Not long after we met, we moved in together and continued to study the healing arts and the occult. We took classes in Runes, Huna Magic, Kabbala, etc. We went to festivals and studied with various groups. October 23rd, 2003, I received my Usui Master Level attunement and became a Reiki Master.

On October 4th, 2005 I was attuned to the Master level of The Golden Triangle Healing System. It is a powerful energy healing system originated from ancient Egyptian sacred energy practices. It is linked to the supreme healer and priestess, Isis, and can be used for distant or in-person healing work
On October 20th, 2005 I was attuned to the Master level of Full spectrum healing. It is a form of medicine that uses energy and a combination of conventional medical practices to heal a body. Incorporating energy allows a person to connect with their inner self and naturally touch the desire for healing their body.
On November 1st, 2005 I was attuned to the Master level of Usui Reiki for the 2nd time
On September 13th, 2005 I was attuned to the first level of Usui Reiki for the 2nd time
On September 26th, 2005 I was attuned to the second level of Usui Reiki for the 2nd time

On November 1st, 2005 I was attuned to the Master level of Elemental Reiki as well. Elemental Reiki is a system created by Rebecca Doolin in 1995, designed for those who practice Goddess-based earth religions such as Paganism and Wicca. It includes eight symbols and is connected to the earth element

What I began to understand was the more tools I have at my disposal the more likely I was going to be able to help people heal. I found a deal with another Reiki Master and studied many more forms of Reiki, and she attuned me to them. The package included Usui Reiki, so I was reattuned to it again.
On November 14th, 2005 I was attuned to the Master Level of Ethereal Crystals Healing System. It is a technique that allows healers to work with crystal energy even when the physical stones are not present12. It can be used to raise consciousness, heal animals, cleanse energies, improve relationships, and heal the body through direct energetic interaction with internal organs3. The system creates energetic crystals with properties similar to real crystals

Founded by Claire Timmis, The Silver Violet Flame is a high frequency spiritual energy, which was reintroduced by the ascended master St. Germain. The Violet Flame is for those who hear the call of community or spiritual service to mankind.
The Silver Violet Flame possesses the qualities of freedom, alchemy, justice, joy, forgiveness, and mercy. When the decrees are recited with devotion, the Silver Violet Flame permeates every cell and atom of your body, mind, and emotions, and even your subconscious memory. It actually steps up the vibrations of the electrons, so you resonate more with the pure cosmic energy that comes from our God/Goddess Presence. As a result, the Silver Violet Flame transmutes anything negative that is lodged within our spiritual or physical being, including everything from self-hatred to physical viruses, as well as negative energy directed at you by others.
My Attunement to the Silver Violet Flame Master Level of Reiki was on December 2nd, 2005
The Reiki Akashic Records attunement provides techniques and scripts to access the Akashic Records for spiritual guidance and past life impact1. It is a spiritual initiation conducted by a Reiki Master to connect with Reiki energy for healing purposes.
My Akashic Records attunment was on November 28th, 2005
Imara Reiki was initially channeled by Barton Wendel. Master Wendel and his brother Geoffrey fine tuned Imara to be what it is today. The word “Imara” means “More” and more refers to a more intense higher vibrational energy. Imara Reiki utilizes Lao Ho Chi, healing light of the highest frequencies, brought to us from the master Lao Tzo. Imara Reiki is easier to tap into than Usui, Tibetan Usui, Tera Mai, or Karuna Reiki, once attuned, . There is a pre-requisite and that is you must be a Reiki Master of one of these or a similar tradition before receiving the full benefits of Imara.
My Master Level attunement in Imara Reiki was on January 16th, 2006

Spirit Reiki is a spiritual practice that channels universal life force energy to create a healthier environment within the body and mind. It addresses the person as a whole, recognizing the interconnection between body, mind, and spirit.

Angel Light is a gentle, nurturing energy that balances and aligns the energy centers in the physical, mental, emotional and subtle bodies. It is a terrific energy to use with animals, babies, children and the elderly. Most people report feeling deep levels of peace and relaxation throughout their body and mind.
My Angel Light Initiation and attunment took place on January 10th, 2006
As I studied and received all these forms of healing I did notice my ability to help my patients improved. But Healing Touch made more sense to me. It had specific directions on where to place your hands and which technique to use for each ailment. It was developed for nurses and cretified through the Holistic Nurses Association. Additionally Healing Touch had a Medicare billing code and research behind it. So I continued studying Healing Touch.
White Dove is a system founded by Rev. Richard D. Kidd in 2004 to help Reiki practitioners in their practise, in his manual for this system he says, “Although there are many forms of Reiki, White Dove Reiki enables the Reiki Practitioner to have assistance in the Healing and Attunement process.

Tibetan Reiki, also known as Tibetan Usui Reiki, is a spiritual healing practice that focuses on restoring balance within our energy system and works on multiple levels, including physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social aspects. It uses symbols and techniques adapted from Tibetan spiritual teachings and Eastern Usui Reiki Tradition. The idea that Reiki was a long-forgotten, ancient Tibetan form of healing, rediscovered by Usui Sensei, has been suggested by some practitioners
I received my Master Level Tibetan Reiki Attunment on January 23rd, 2006

Karuna Ki Reiki was developed by Vincent Amador in the late 1990s as an extension of the Usui and Karuna Reiki systems. Amador, a seasoned Reiki Master, sought to create a unique form of Reiki that focused on compassionate energy and heart-centered healing. Kuruna Ki Reiki is a practice that focuses on healing through heart-centered energy. It's a journey of self-discovery and healing, and the goal is to provide you with a comprehensive guide to understanding and embracing this practice. Karuna Ki Reiki is an evolution of the traditional Usui Reiki, blending in elements of Karuna and Shamballa Reiki. "Karuna" is a Sanskrit word that means compassionate action, while "Ki" refers to the life force energy that flows through all living beings. Together, Karuna Ki Reiki represents a compassionate energy healing practice that aims to alleviate suffering and promote wellness. While all forms of Reiki follow the principle of channeling healing energy, Karuna Ki Reiki takes a slightly different approach. It emphasizes the cultivation of compassion, not just as an emotion but as a vibrational frequency that can heal and transform. But before delving into the methodology and benefits of Karuna Ki Reiki, let's take a brief look at its history and evolution.
I was attuned to the Master Level of Kuruna Ki Reiki on December 5th, 2005

My Training and Experience: 2006 to 2008
Please note: I have been married four times so have had several last names including: Burbank-Carson, Fogleman, Barajas, Olivas, and Lavadour
One of my most profound experiences with energy work happened in 2006 while I was working at Kaiser. I was admitting an AIDS patient with an Aspergillus fumigatus (fungal) infection behind his eye. He arrived in 10/10 pain, and I knew he was going to have to wait for his medications to be verified before I could get him any pain medication. He was open to me trying Healing Touch© to try to reduce his pain. I did a pain drain and after I was done, he reported his pain as a 4/10 and I went to get him pain medication to keep his pain down. Over the next three days I did full sessions with him and something interesting happened. I was looking at his labs and then his doctor came in and she told him that somehow his T cells were rising in a surprising manner, and she asked him if he had been doing anything differently. He told her about my healing sessions. I told her about Healing Touch© and she thought it was wonderful. When he was admitted, he was not expected to survive. He got well enough to go home. Over the next few months, I saw him whenever he was admitted and did healing treatments for him. One of those times he left me a note. I have kept it for its kind words.
In AIDS, the inability to produce T-cells, specifically CD4 T cells, leads to a severe weakening of the immune system. As the body's immune system is compromised, it becomes much more susceptible to a wide range of infections and diseases. This weakens the body's ability to fight off common infections and illnesses, increasing the risk of opportunistic infections.
I was able to take level two of Healing Touch© on September 23-24, 2006. I would have taken it sooner but the founder, Janet Mentgen, passed and there was a contravesy on how the program would move forward eventually spliting into two paths. I stayed with The Healing Touch© program while others chose to go with Healing Touch Worldwide Foundation, Inc. Needless to say there were no classes available while they got it sorted out.
When I returned I had a note at work. Lee had passed but had told his friend that worked at Kaiser about my healing sessions and how much they helped. He lived almost a year from his first admission with me. He helped me see the benefit of Healing Touch©
I only had to wait a couple of months befor I could take Level 3 of Healing Touch©. This time I got to make a weekend of it as it was held in Olympia, Washington on January 20-21, 2007. There was a friend from level two there so we really had time to get to know one another.
Apparently, there were not many Level three instructors so that was why it was hald in Olympia.

I made Brochures, Business Cards, Had a Flip Sign I would put out when I was in the office.
It was at this point I became disaloutioned with going further with the Healing Touch Program. In Level 1-4 there were new techniques taught. At level 5, all they did was go over the requirements to verify we completed them. He did not learn any new techniques, and they added a new requirement of working directly with a mentor for a year before you could become certified. My mentor ended up being my Level one instructor. A non-nurse who was linmited to teaching level one. She was aware that I wanted to teach Healing Touch and that I am an RN which meant I would be able to teach all 5 levels.
She made it impossible to complete the mentorship requirements. Additionally, I had jsut spent over $1200 for Level 5 to learn nothing new. Finally, I would have to pay an additional $250 to become certified. I al ready have a license to touch so I did not need a certification to practice Healing Touch. My business was failing as I was not bringing in enough money by donation to cover the rent and when I tried to actually charge a set fee, no one booked any appointments except my 2 clients but they really did not need any sessions any more. So I made the decision to close my office and would do a few sessions here and there at my home. Meanwhile, I continued working on my BSN and MSN.
Shortly after this my friend was preparing to open and Herbal Shop on Hawthorne Blvd, in Portland, Oregon. She had two spaces she was going to rent out. I discussed with Wolf and decided to open a Healing Touch© business. That way I could establish a clientele and get my 100 sessions documented.
Meanwile I was able to preform the duties of Helper for Level One of Healing Touch which would be necessary if I want to advance to level Six to be able to teach.
So in January of 2008 I opened my Healing Touch© Business
I did sucessfully get my 100 sessions. What I discuvered along the way was that when you offer people your services by donation, they do not value it. When I say this it is from seeing over and over, the same people coming in to see me. I balance their energy field, they leave feeling significantly better by pain and anxiety scales. Then they donate $5-10 for an hour to an hour and a half session with a posted value of $75-100. The next day to week they come back in with the exact same complaints. Whereas, the two clients I had that actually donated the value of the session both improved significantly and needed sessions less and less frequently.
I always thought the part about equal energy exchange I learned in Reiki was not important until I observed this phenomena. I Had the opportunity to take an additional course Anatomy for Healers April 3-6, 2008, Level One and found the teachniques a nice addition.
I was offering Healing Touch© to patients and staff alike. I had a few doctors that would seek me out to either do a session on them or on their patient. I had a friend with a cyst on her sacrum and after I did a session the doctor couldn't find it when she went in to have it removed.
I was able to take Level Four of Healing Touch© In November 15-18, 2007. This is the level where you have the document 100 Healing Touch© Sessions, Several Book Reviews, and a few other steps in order to move up to Level 5
I did complete all the requirements for Level Five and completed taking Level Five on November 14-17, 2008
